ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSES FOR FOREIGNERS

English International School offers courses for those who want to learn Italian and those who are also interested in learning more about Italian history, culture and cuisine. At the end of the course students can take the exam for the CILS certification.

Language course for CILS and Italian culture:

  • one week up to 30 hours
  • 5 hours a day
  • Monday to Friday

Upon registration, students will be asked to do an entry test to determine their current level of Italian. They will then be placed in the most suitable group and level.

Course structure

The course consists of lessons and workshops. During the lessons the teacher explains in a clear and simple way the basic concepts of morphology, vocabulary, phonetics and functional language using both a deductive and inductive approach. The workshops will focus on consolidation of new language, checking exercises, conversation, role-play, listening to songs, writing tasks, watching films, videos, documentaries.

 

The workshops are engaging and interesting with topics and situations that appeal to the students.

The Aim

At the end of the course students will be able to communicate in a clear and simple

way. They will be able to describe simple situations. Students will learn how to

introduce themselves and others and will be able to ask and answer questions

about personal details.

Objectives:

  • Development of interactive skills;
  • Acquisition of everyday vocabulary plus a basic knowledge of Italian culture;
  • Development of receptive skills and understanding;
  • Development of productive skills;
  • Development of interaction skills.

Coursework

During the course students will become familiar with the basics of Italian grammar. They will be looking at simple grammatical forms that will allow them to express themselves using short simple sentences in everyday situations. The topics will cover different aspects of Italian culture
(art, customs, cuisine).

A basic knowledge of Italian

The course is divided into 2 parts:
2.5 hours of language analysis, followed by

2.5 hours of communicative activities.

Who is it for?
The course is for beginners and near-beginners with little language knowledge.

Level A1 – A2

Objectives

At the end of the course students will be able to understand the main points of standard speech on familiar matters (job, school, leisure). The student will practise how to listen and understand key points of recorded materials.

The objectives in detail:

  • Development of receptive skills and listening skills: listening to ads and recordings, understanding film dialogues;

  • Development of productive skills: telling a story, writing letters, analytical work on a text.

  • Development of interaction skills.

Coursework

During the course students will acquire more complex grammatical forms and learn how to communicate with more accuracy and fluency; they will also improve their writing skills. At this level different topics will be introduced which can be of cultural interest (Italian art, customs, cuisine) to the participants. Topics will also include controversial issues from current events.

The course is for students with an intermediate knowledge of Italian

The course is divided into 2 parts:

The course is open to anyone who has an intermediate level of Italian.
